March 4th 2017

Greetings Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It seems crazy that March is already here and that we just kicked off Lent with Ash Wednesday a couple nights ago. We’re doing an interesting series on Wednesday nights, looking at the various inanimate objects involved in the Passion and what they symbolize. Those services are every Wedensday night at 7pm and Pastor Tom Schierkolk, from Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Eben Junction, and I will be alternating Wednesday night services. Don’t forget to come early and come hungry as there is soup, bread and dessert starting at 6pm..

This Sunday I’ll be starting a series looking at Jesus journey to Jerusalem as told through Luke’s Gospel. We’ll be exploring how this was Jesus mission from the start, and understanding what that means for us today.

God’s blessings,

~Pastor Dave

Epiphany Series

Greetings friends! This is the third week after Epiphany and I pray that you have been encouraged so far in sharing in the joy of those who discovered that Jesus is the Truth. Imagine that discovery, the overwhelming joy those people would have felt with that amazing discovery, “God is here among us!” So this week we’ll be looking into someone who placed her hope in Christ to heal her, and he did in more ways that she could even comprehend. Her account applies to us just as well, because only Christ can truly heal us. I look forward to seeing you this Sunday and sharing together the healing all of us experience through our faith in our gracious Savior!

God’s blessings,

~Pastor Dave

The snow has finally arrived and I suspect it’s not going anywhere until 2017. For those who were hoping for a white Christmas, this probably brings a smile to your heart! Smiles, and the things that make us smile are what we’re going to be talking about this Sunday, the third Sunday of Advent. The theme for this Sunday is Joy, and we’ll be examing the difference between the things that make us happy versus the true joy we find through Christ as our Savior! I look forward to sharing our joy of the Lord together.

God’s blessings,

It looks like winter might finally be showing up here in the U.P. which is perfect timing as we start getting into the Christmas spirit.(more on that in a minute). This past Thursday we had the funeral for Wally Peterson, who was the last surviving charter member of Hope Free Lutheran Church. Come next spring we’ll be celebrating 50 years of God’s work through our church. That began with a group of people, like Wally, who followed the Spirit’s vision and leading and were obedient to God’s calling. This is the mark of the Christian, one who desires to seek God’s guidance. This is exactly what we’ll be concluding our part 3 of Christianity 101 with, what it looks like to be a follower of Christ.

A couple quick reminders as well. Don’t forget about the BIG community dinner this Sunday night. Also, we have our Thanksgiving church service Tuesday night and will be decorating the church after that! The busy season is starting to ramp up, as we ourselves gear up to celebrating the birth of our Savior.

God’s blessings,

Hasn’t this been a gorgeous week, giving us the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of God’s creation even longer than normal. And while the beauty of God’s creation is truly a gift to us all, the greatest gift he gave us was the freedom and forgiveness of our sins which he’s given to us through the blood of Jesus Christ. Last week for the sermon series called “Christianity 101” I preached on how destructive sin is, and this week we’ll all learn what it means to accept Christ as our Savior, so that we can receive that forgiveness of sins.

I pray God’s blessings on your weekend and look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.
